CANTON – Even before the game began, they knew it would be their last at the 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup. That, however, did not stop the Westchester Express ’01 from putting an exclamation point finish on their stay, posting a 10-2 drubbing over Power Play Gold on Saturday evening at the Canton Ice House.
Through the opening 25-minutes, the score remained close. Three goals were scored in total, leaving Power Play Gold with a manageable 2-1 deficit at the intermission. When the teams returned to the ice for the second, however, the barrage began.
The assault was underway at 2:13 of the second half on an unassisted goal by Brandon LaSpina. By the 4:37 mark, the Express’ margin had grown to 6-1.
Westchester dumped in another three more before Power Play returned to the score sheet. Defensemen Tommy Sylvia coming through at 18:18 to breakup the Express attack.
Whatever good feelings Sylvia’s goal may have mustered, however, were quickly quashed. The Express responded with a score of their own just 1:26 afterward. Vincent Spaziante’s goal at 19:34 punctuating the 10-2 rout.
In total, 10 skaters for Westchester had a credit to their name on the score sheet, and half of those had two points or more. LaSpina and Spaziante led the charge with two goals and an assist each.
Ryan Goodliffe was credited with the win in net for Westchester.
