FOXBORO – New England Pro Am Hockey’s Jr. Chowder Cup had a new name in 2019 – recently renamed to honor long time NHL scout and friend of the program Bob Crocker – but a familiar champion. Just one year removed from winning the 2003 Division championship at the 2018 Jr. Chowder Cup and two weeks removed from winning the 2005 Division championship at the 2019 Mini Chowder Cup, Maroon Hockey Club has claimed their second Pro Am title of the year. They defeated FL Hockey 2-1 to claim the 2019 2004 Division championship.
For much of the championship contest, the game play was about as even as it could have been, both sides matching each other chance for chance. Even the early goals that were scored came in similar fashion in a similar time frame.
Cedrick Guindon put FL Hockey on the board first when he banged in a rebound at 8:43. Their lead was gone less than a minute later when Maroon’s Luke Devlin snapped one in from close range to bring the score back to even at 1-1.
As even as it was for much of the contest, Maroon slowly gained momentum as the game clock wore thin. They went on to seize the final opportunity presented to them and make the moment of it, having drawn a holding call with just over two minutes to play.
Once again from in tight, as the bodies piled up in the slot, a puck somehow snuck through to seal it. A goal credited to Jake Fullerton with just 25-second remaining in regulation delivering the 2-1 final and the 2019 Bob Crocker Jr. Chowder Cup 2004 Division Championship to Maroon Hockey Club.
