Canada West Cream starts with 5-4 win.

WALPOLE – In the first game of the 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup on the Olympic sheet at Walpole’s Rodman Arena, Canada West Cream came away with a 5-4 win over Mass Attack in ’02 division play on Thursday morning.

It was an evenly played first half, a pair of Canada West strikes just 1:17 apart (goals coming at 6:09 and 7:26 of the first half) sandwiched between Mass Attack goals in the opening and then closing minutes of the frame to send the game to the break tied 2-2. Jacob Bonvouloir and Rhys Dutcyvich with the goals for Canada West, while both Mass Attack goals game from Brady McCabe, both assisted on by Ryan Archer.

The second half started at a torrid pace, a combined three goals scored in the first 3:41, resulting in a 4-3 lead for Canada West. Mass Attack brought the game back to even at the 13:31 mark on a shorthanded goal by Joey Thibodeau.

After providing his team’s first goal, minutes after Thibodeau’s equalizing score Bonvouloir then came through with Canada West’s final score of the game. The eventual game-winner coming at 15:41 of the second half to set the 5-4 final.

Bonvouloir (2G), Thomas Belgarde (1G, 1A) and Nicholas Samson (2A) had multiple points in the win for West. McCabe (2G), Thibodeau (1G, 1A) and Archer (2A) all with multiple credits for Mass Attack.

Ethan Bartucca and Will Hambley split the win in net for Canada West.
