CANTON – The Vermont Jr. Catamounts rolled to an early victory on Day 2 of the 2024 Jr. Chowder Cup. They defeated PHG Elite 5-1 in 2008 Elite division play at the Canton Ice House.
It was a mostly scoreless first half as it was not until late either team was able to break into the scoring column. Jackson Small and Huneter Chadbourne each credited with a goal in the final 1:30 to give Vermont a 2-0 lead at the half.
That lead grew to 3-0 on a Blake Cash goal near the midpoint of the second. Gavin Wakeland stopped Vermont’s goal-scoring streak when he put PHG on the board at 18:37 of the half, but it was but a brief interruption as Small added another and Charlie Leonard closed out the scoring and the 5-1 Catamounts win.
Parker Stockseth was credited with his second win of the tournament in the Vermont net.
