Davis, U.S. Aces edge out Squires 17’s, 6-5.

CANTON – A slow offensive start for both sides turned into a torrid finish as the U.S. Aces Hockey Club defeated Squires 17’s 6-5 on Friday afternoon at the Canton Ice House.

Cushing Academy’s Chase Davis started the game’s scoring with a pair of early, first half goals – scored at 2:29 and 9:55 – that garnered the Aces a 2-0 lead. Brendan Curtis cut the deficit in half with his goal at 19:03 of the opening half, sending the Squires to the locker room behind 2-1.

While they never trailed in the contest, the Aces could never breakaway from their foe.

Both offenses broke out in the second half as the two sides traded goals back-and-forth. Curtis scored a second at 1:13 to draw things even at 2-2, which was then followed by a swap of special teams goals.

With Eric Galauner in the box for a rough, it was a shorty for Davis and the Aces and a power play goal for Quinn Kerr and the Squires. The goals scored at 4:59 and 6:44 of the second half, respectively.

The pursuit continued as such, both team’s scoring four, until the game’s final minute. With just 20-seconds before the end of regulation, Jake Kruzewski scored his second of the game. That made the score 6-5 and this time there was no response for the Squires.

All of the offense resulted in five different players getting on the score sheet multiple times. Kerr (3G), Curtis (2G) and Brady McGrath (2A) for the Squires, Davis with a game-high five points (4G, 1A) and Kruzewski (2G) for the Aces.
