EC Kings Red tops Game Breakers 36 Elite, 3-1

FOXBORO – There were not many missteps along the way in the 2014 Junior Chowder Cup when East Coast Kings Red captured the ’99 Division championship. Those positive results seemingly have continued from one July to the next as the Kings started their title defense with a win, scoring a 3-1 victory over the Game Breakers 36 Elite on Thursday at Foxboro Sports Center.

As he did in his team’s last Junior Chowder Cup contest, Logan Cockerill opened the game’s scoring with a goal at 3:01 of the first half to give the Kings an early 1-0 lead.

It was a lead that eventually grew to 3-0, Marc McLaughlin – who also had the game-winner in last year’s championship match – was next on the board at 11:25 and then Neil Shea rounded out the three-goal swing with his score at 16:37.

The Game Breakers got themselves on the board just before the half on an unassisted tally from Cole Donhauser at 24:32. While the last minute goal can often be turned into a rallying point, there was no comeback to be had for the Game Breakers. Both team’s offenses were held in check throughout the game’s second half, the Kings holding onto their 3-1 lead in their tournament opening win.

Shea was the game’s only multi-point scorer, registering a goal and an assist.
