CANTON – It is a perfect 2-for-2 for GDA Hockey’s ’01 squad as they began their second day of play at the 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup just getting by the Tropics, 2-1, Friday morning at the Canton Ice House.
Offense came at a premium as defense and goaltending dominated the score sheet. There were still a few goals to be had, Mike Rocco getting one of them at 6:01 of the first half to give GDA a 1-0 advantage. Just over five minutes later, however, the Tropics had it back to even at the 13:07 mark. The 1-1 score remaining on the board through the duration of the opening half.
The scoring pace was not much different when the teams returned to the ice for the second half. If anything, it slowed as the backend for both sides held until late in the game. There was all of 6:19 remaining when Christian Montgomery netted the second of the day for GDA.
Montgomery’s score not only broke the deadlock, but went down as the game-winning goal, finalizing the 2-1 score.
GDA forward Resse Farrell factored into both of his team’s goal, credited with a pair of assists to lead the game in scoring.
Netminder Dylan Ringheiser was credited with the win.
