Storm holds against Whalers.

ATTLEBORO – After a reasonably comfortable, 4-1 win in their first game of the 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup, things were a bit tighter in round two for Storm HC. That margin of victory dropped to one as they held on for a 3-2 win versus the Jersey Shore Whalers on Friday at New England Sports Village.

The game was tied after 11-minutes, both team’s getting a goal in that span. Evan Rago for the Storm and then Billy Parsley for the Whalers with those goals. Then, just across the midpoint of the half, the Storm rolled in for two less than a minute apart to stake their lead. Aidan Curran at 14:37 and Matt Ryan at 15:24 setting things at 3-1.

It was a 3-1 lead that held for the Storm into the second half and then seemingly barely held from there. An early power play goal by defenseman Will Hilfiker, coming just before the four-minute mark cut the Storm’s advantage to just one.

There was plenty of time left to mount a comeback, but netminder Cole Chingris, who had come on to start the second half, kept the door closed on his foe to preserve the 3-2 advantage and the Storm win.

Chingris combined with Drew Blodget for the win in net.
