Titans hammer DB Selects

CANTON – With their chances of moving on to Sunday’s ’98 Division playoffs still alive, but dwindling, the New Jersey Titans made their case to advance in the 2014 Junior Chowder Cup with an authoritative 13-0 victory over DB Selects Saturday morning at the Canton Ice Plex.

The Titans were all over their foe from the very beginning and seemingly did not let up for more than a few minutes throughout the entire contest. Bobby Freiling got the party started with his first of two on the day at 1:04, starting a rally that amounted to a 7-0 Titans lead by halftime.

Though they totaled one fewer goal, it was much the same story for the Titans in the second half, starting early on when Justin Mayer came through for his second of the game at 2:22, and then piling on throughout.

A spurt of offense near the middle of the second half accounted for three more goals that staked the Titians out to an 11-0 advantage, before a pair of goals late ended things, Zach Noble completing his hat trick and the game’s scoring at 23:56 for the 13-0 final.

A total of eight Titans ended opening round play registering multiple points against DB Selects. Noble’s three goals were best in the game, but his four points were equaled by Freiling, who had two goal and two assists. Jack Conrad registered three points in the victory with a goal and two assists, while Mayer (2G), Davin Van de Zilver (1G, 1A), Joshua Rosenbaum (1G, 1A), Matt Mood (1G, 1A) and Tommy Donnelly (2A) all were credited with two.
