Tropics ’00 over Mantha Springs

FOXBORO – After playing to a draw in their tournament opener on Thursday, the Tropics ’00 squad notched their first win of the 2016 Jr. Chowder Cup on Friday at Foxboro Sports Center. They came from behind with momentum swinging goals in a 3-1 victory over Mantha Springs Selects.

It was the Tropics out front last, but the Selects out front first, Hunter Skinner scoring the game’s opening goal at 13:15 of the first half. The 1-0 lead held and with the Selects on the verge holding it into the break, the Tropics drew even, Luke Downie making it 1-1 just 39-seconds before the period’s final buzzer.

They swung back to even in the final minute of the first half, then swung out front in the front in the first minute of the second half. Thayer product Tristan Amonte giving the Tropics the only lead they needed just 48-seconds after the second’s opening draw. The 2-1 lead was enough, but they added one more for good measure. Defenseman Jack Murphy finalized the 3-1 victory at 24:28 of the second half.
