Werewolves no match for Shamrocks

CANTON – The Exeter Shamrocks closed out their opening round slate of games at the 2015 Junior Chowder Cup with an exclamation point on Saturday at the Canton Sports Plex. They posted a 12-1 rout of the CT Werewolves to finish pool play a perfect 3-0-0.

The assault began just 22-second after puck drop on a goal by Corbin Cashman, an assault that saw the Shamrocks open up a 5-0 lead before the first half even reached its midpoint.

Things settled in for the Werewolves in the latter stages of the first, the Shamrocks offense kept in check the final 13:33 of the 25-minute half. They went right back to bad, however, coming out of the break as Cashman got the Exeter offense going with his second at 2:50 and this time the scoring continued throughout the half.

Exeter bettered their mark from the first by two, lighting the lamp seven times in the second to run their goal total to 12. Yet, the last laugh in the contest went to the Werewolves. Zack Withington put his side on the scoreboard to make it 12-1, breaking up the Shamrocks’ shutout with just 0:38 left on the game clock.

The goals to open the scoring in the first and second halves were two of Cashman’s game-high three, one of four Shamrocks credited with at least two scores. Joe Petruzzella was also one of those four to net a pair, his two goals coming in addition to his game-high four assists and six points.
