WALPOLE – A slow start to their Thursday afternoon contest turned into a furious finish as Metro East secured a 3-2, ’99 Division win over the Boston Generals in their 2014 Junior Chowder Cup opener at Rodman Arena. Both sides saved their best for late, doing all their scoring in the second half.
While the game’s first 25 minutes was one long, scoreless draught, it took all of 45 seconds to get things going in the second half, Brock Boisclair giving the Generals the game’s first lead with an unassisted goal. East, however, did not let the game get too far away from them, Josh Barraclough evening the score, 1-1, at 4:05.
A pair of quick strikes just past the midway point of the second half helped make the game theirs for good as Matt Hunter and Jake Durham both scored to give Metro East a 3-1 lead. The tallies both coming on the power play, at 14:21 and 15:21, respectively.
Boisclair came through with a power play goal of his own at 19:38 to cut the Generals’ deficit to one, but that is as close as any comeback came as the score remained 3-2 until the final buzzer.
Patrick Demaio’s two assists were tops in the game and best amongst Metro East scorers, while Kyle Corrigan and Mason Cox combined to backstop the win for the victors.
