West Michigan rocking on Thursday.

CANTON – It was a near perfect start to the 2018 Jr. Chowder Cup for West Michigan Elite. They opened their ’02 division slate of preliminary round games with a 9-1 rout of Roc City Elite Red on Thursday at the Canton Ice House.

Goals came often and in bunches for West Michigan. Zak Kruszewski scored twice within a minute early. As did Bryan Huggins and Logan Furstenau. The two pairs of strikes sandwiching another goal by Huggins.

The only blemish to the West Michigan credit came near the middle of the first period in the form of a power play goal by Roc City’s Tyer Ray. It was a 5-1 score through one half.

West Michigan was just as good, if not better, in the game’s second half, putting up four more goals and yielding none to bring the score to its 9-1 final. Four players ended the contest with multiple points.

Donovan Powell led the offense, putting up three assists for West Michigan. Kruszewski, Furstenau and Leyton Pettypiece each had a pair of goals.

Jacob Winters played all 50-minutes in net to shutdown Roc City and secure the win.
