FOXBORO – The second of three weeks of Chowder Cup play got under way on Thursday morning. The first game listed on the docket for New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2018 Jr. Chowder Cup was an ‘02 division tilt between Canada West Elite White and Seacoast at Foxboro Sports Center.
Canada West took the first scheduled win of the event by virtue of a 6-3 score.
The two sides were tight early, trading goals throughout the middle portions of the game’s opening half. Brett Repage opened the game’s scoring at 8:41, giving Canada West the game’s first lead. Seacoast answered back just about a minute later on a goal by Jacob Lewis that made it 1-1. Brendan Williamson’s goal at 13:02 had the lead back in Canada West’s favor, but only until Lewis evened things up again at 16:43.
Canada West scored the next two goals and from there the scoreboard was theirs.
Caleb Cathcart at 17:37 and Joey Gouveia at 19:55 made it 4-2. Seacoast got a goal from Dominic Chasse before the first half came to a close, but it was their final score of the contest. There was no further comeback, while Canada West went on to notch a pair in the second half to close out the 6-3 victory.
Six players were credited with multiple points for the contest. Lewis led the charge for Seacoast with his two goals. Gouveia (2G), Repage (1G, 1A), Cathcart (1G, 1A), Williamson (1G, 1A) and Logan Sadler (1G, 1A) all had multiple entries on the Canada West side of the score sheet.
Will Hambley of the Gunnery was credited with the win in net for Canada West.
