CANTON – The New England Combat took home their first win of the 2019 Bob Crocker Jr. Chowder Cup on Saturday morning. They defeated IHC Hockey 6-4 in 2003 Division play at the Canton Ice House.
There were two halves to be played in the contest, but the Combat did the bulk of their damage in the game’s first. The two sides traded shots back-and forth until the final two minutes when the Combat put away a pair of power play goals – one each from Bryan Roy (who completed a hattrick with the score) and Vinny Sica – to set themselves a comfortable, 4-2 cushion at the halftime intermission.
Like the first, it was a 2-2 battle until the closing minutes of the second. This time, however, there was no late, two-goal rally for the Combat, but they were still up two in the score column, so the 6-4 victory belonged to New England.
Roy’s three led the game in goal scoring, but teammates Leo Owens was credited with four points (1G, 3A) to lead the game in scoring.
Samuel Mitchell (2G) and Neil Domico (2A) led the IHC offense with two points apiece.
