CANTON – Headstrong Hockey White opened up their 2016 Jr. Chowder Cup stint by fending off Boston Phoenix en route to a 4-2 victory on Thursday evening at the Canton Sports Plex.
The first half was a tight one, both teams saving the bulk of their scoring until the second half. Ryan McArthur was the only player from either side to break into the scoring column in the opening 25-minutes, his score at 7:42 giving Headstrong a 1-0 lead.
Michael Moreira then doubled it with his goal at 4:25 of the second half.
Boston began chipping away at their deficit, getting the game’s next goal – a Chris Egan score at 10:43 – but Headstrong did not waste much time reclaiming their two-goal advantage, Bobby Batten making it 3-1 at 11:58.
Headstrong increased their advantage to 4-1 on a Bryan Cech goal at 17:05. This time it was the Phoenix answering right back. Jeff Russo had the game’s next goal just 2:29 after Cech’s score, but even with 5:26 remaining, there was no comeback to be had. The score held for a 4-2 Headstrong victory.
