WALPOLE – Both RP Hockey Institute and the Texas Tornados rode waves of momentum throughout their opener in the 2015 Junior Chowder Cup on Thursday at Rodman Arena. Neither side could ride their wave long enough to pull away from their foe, however, and the contest ended in a 3-3 draw.
After the Institute carried a 1-0 lead into the second half courtesy of a Jonah Alexander goal at 14:38 of the first, the Tornados rode the first momentum wave as they stormed back with three straight scores. Thomas Demers drew the game even at 3:33 of the second half and then back-to-back scores from Jacob Berg put Texas up by two at 3-1.
The two-goal advantage did not last for long, as RP had their deficit back to one just 2:08 after Berg’s second tally when Will Frustraglia scored at 11:29. It was then gone all together when Alexander netted his second of the contest at 16:59. Balance had been restored on the scoreboard and in the game, as it remained even at 3-3 through the final buzzer.
Barrett Mundell backstopped the draw for the Institute, while Jake Ange and Bryce Murphy shared the duties in net for the Tornados.
