BRIDGEWATER – The Vermont Flames used the man advantage to their advantage when they met DSC Hockey late Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater Ice Arena. Three special teams goals scored en route to their 3-1 victory.
It was quiet on the scoresheet for much of the first. Vermont goaltender Joey Mitchell and DSC counterpart Cassidy Kittredge turned away just about everything that came their way. Only a late power play goal from Calvin Gustafson went up on the scoreboard, giving Vermont a 1-0 lead at the half.
DSC tied things up early in the second on a Brady Kilheffer goal, but the Vermont power play was destined to strike again and re-establish the lead. This time it was a strike from Drew Dougherty that gave the Flames the advantage at 2-1.
The Vermont power played scored the game’s first and the game-winning goal, but their penalty kill cemented the victory, a Brody Gouin shorthanded score in the closing seconds closing out the 3-1 victory.
