FOXBORO – Their first defeat at the 2018 Jr. Chowder Cup was in sight, but the Boston Jr. Whalers rallied to make sure it didn’t happen. They pulled even with Players First Hockey late to net a 2-2 tie Saturday at the Foxboro Sports Center.
Twice in the game the Whalers made it a habit of coming back, once in each half. A goal by Daniel Gaeta at the 22-minute mark of the opening half put Players First on top 1-0. The lead lasted all of 2:30, Chris Hocevar scoring 30-seconds beforehand to send the Whalers to halftime tied 1-1.
Players First went up a goal again – Luke Tchor scoring at 14:09 – but this time held their lead for longer. The 2-1 advantage lasted until deep in the second half, but there was another late period goal for the Whalers to cancel it out.
An unassisted goal by Will Klinge at 22:06 evened the score at 2-2, where it remained through the game’s final 2:54.
